Google Meet AI Notes: New Customisation Options for Administrators

Google Workspace continues to evolve, bringing more intelligent features to aid productivity within organisations. A recent update to Google Meet introduces significant enhancements to the AI-powered "Take notes for me" feature, providing users with greater control over how meeting summaries are generated and presented. These improvements are designed to make meeting artefacts more actionable and easier to digest, benefiting teams across various sectors.
The "Take notes for me" functionality in Google Meet has received an upgrade, allowing users to fine-tune the content of their automatically generated notes. Previously, options were introduced to adjust the level of detail within notes; now, this customisation expands to individual sections. Users can now selectively toggle on or off specific sections, including the Summary, Decisions, Next steps, and Details directly from the in-call menu. This granular control means that notes can be tailored precisely to the needs of a particular meeting, ensuring that only the most relevant information is captured and organised. It is important to note that these customisation choices are session-specific and will not alter an individual's default settings for subsequent meetings.
A notable addition to the AI-generated notes is the new "Decisions" section. This dedicated area is engineered to explicitly capture and track outcomes made during a meeting. It allows for the clear categorisation of decisions with statuses such as 'Aligned', 'Needs further discussion', 'Disagreed', or 'Shelved'. This structured approach to documenting key agreements and disagreements is invaluable for ensuring clarity and accountability following discussions. Initially, this powerful new section will be available exclusively in English, with potential expansion to other languages in future updates.
Alongside the new customisation options, the overall summary section of the AI-generated notes has been refined. The improved summary is designed to be more concise and scannable, enabling users to quickly grasp the key points and outcomes of a meeting without needing to sift through extensive text. This enhancement complements the modular customisation, ensuring that whether a user opts for a detailed or a brief overview, the most critical information is presented efficiently.
For Google Workspace Administrators, this update is seamless. There are no specific admin controls required to enable or manage these new note-taking capabilities. The feature will automatically become available to all users within your organisation who have access to the "Take notes for me" functionality, assuming their Google Workspace edition supports it. This simplifies deployment and ensures that teams can immediately benefit from the enhanced features.
End users can begin utilising these new options by activating "Take notes for me" during their Google Meet sessions. Within the meeting menu, they can then explore the customisation choices for each section, paying particular attention to the redesigned summary and the highly useful "Decisions" section. This hands-on approach allows individuals to experiment and discover the best configuration for their meeting workflows.
The gradual rollout of these enhancements commenced on April 30, 2026, and is expected to reach all eligible Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains within approximately 15 days.
The advanced AI note-taking features, including the new customisation options and the "Decisions" section, are available across several Google Workspace editions:
