Unleash Creativity: Generate Custom Soundtracks with Lyria 3 in Gemini

Google Workspace continues to evolve with powerful new artificial intelligence capabilities, and the latest update to the Gemini app brings a fascinating new tool for creative expression. Workspace administrators should take note of the introduction of Lyria 3, enabling users to generate custom soundtracks directly within Gemini.
The Gemini application now offers a novel way for users to produce personalised 30-second soundtracks. This feature is driven by Lyria 3, which is a sophisticated music generation model developed by Google. The capability allows individuals to create unique audio pieces using either descriptive text prompts or by providing images.
Imagine a scenario where a user needs a short, catchy tune for an internal presentation, or perhaps a student requires background music for an educational project. With Lyria 3, they can simply describe the desired mood, instrumentation, or style, and Gemini will synthesise a custom track. Examples include transforming a "welcome to the team" email into an accompanying piece of music, developing humorous jingles, or crafting relaxed lo-fi beats. This opens up new avenues for musical creativity and content enhancement within the Workspace environment.
For Google Workspace administrators, managing access to this new feature is straightforward. The Gemini app and its integrated tools, including Lyria 3 music generation, are governed by the existing Generative AI settings located within the Workspace Admin console. This means that if the Gemini app is already enabled or disabled for your organisation, Lyria 3 will adhere to those established controls. Administrators can visit the Help Centre for comprehensive information on configuring these settings.
End users who currently have access to the Gemini app will automatically receive the Lyria 3 music generation capability. To begin using this feature, users simply need to navigate to the tools menu within Gemini and select the "Create music" option.
This functionality is available globally in several languages, including English, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and French. It is accessible to Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and individuals with personal Google accounts, provided they are 18 years of age or older and signed into the Gemini app.
The rollout of Lyria 3 music generation commenced on February 18, 2026. Organisations on both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains can expect full feature visibility within one to three days from this date.
